Opportunities identified for producing new jobs and attracting fresh investment range from energy generation to developing alternative uses for coal and establishing a desalination plant.

Stimulating tourism through the creation of both nature-based and adventure sports hubs, and developing the agriculture, aquaculture and forestry sectors are also highlighted for their potential to take Collie forward.

Collie Shire president Wayne Sanford encouraged people interested in shaping the town’s future to provide feedback on the document.

“We enjoyed valuable support from the Collie and wider community during the research phase of this project,” he said.

“Many people shared their ideas for broadening Collie’s economic base at forums, workshops and through a survey.

“This strategy really is the result of government, industry and the community coming together to build on Collie’s strengths to secure long-term prosperity for the town and region.”
